Deuteronomy 9:3  "Therefore understand today that the LORD your God is He who goes over before you as a consuming fire. He will destroy them and bring them down before you;

He also introduces Himself many times as the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, and hundreds of other times as The God of Israel.  And as the God of Israel surely He must protect and defend His land and the Jewish people.  We also read that many times He warns the nations who come against Israel that they will feel the heat of His wrath, and that they will pay a high price for touching the APPLE of His eye." Joel 3:1-4  "For behold, in those days and at that time, when I bring back the captives of Judah and Jerusalem,  I will also gather all nations, and bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat; and I will enter into judgment with them there on account of My people, My heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations; they have also divided up My land.  "Indeed, what have you to do with Me, O Tyre and Sidon, and all the coasts of Philistia? Will you retaliate against Me? But if you retaliate against Me, swiftly and speedily I will return your retaliation upon your own head  (NKJ)
