EMBASSY MOVE: ‘THIS IS A HISTORIC MOMENT’: Israeli Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon signed a special waiver on Wed. 28 March 2018, permitting the USA State Department to upgrade a facility designated to serve as America’s interim embassy in Israel. The move comes after diplomats from both countries expressed concern that plans by the USA to relocate its embassy from Tel Aviv to the Israeli capital in time for the 70th anniversary of the establishment of Israel on 14 May 2018 were jeopardized by bureaucratic red-tape. Kahlon issued the waiver permitting the USA to upgrade its consular facility in the Arnona neighborhood of Jerusalem to an embassy. “I’m happy and proud to use my authority as Finance Minister of the State of Israel to sign this order permitting President Trump to fulfill his promise to move the USA embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem,” said Kahlon. “This is a historic moment we have awaited for many years. This order is now signed after a great deal of work carried out in a short period of time.” (Arutz-7)
